Terms of use
Effective
The short version. You buy De:activate once on the App Store. It keeps distracting apps closed until you move. It is a habit tool, not a medical device, and you stay in charge of your devices.
Who we are and what this is
De:activate ("we", "us") is provided by the operator named on this site (legal entity name and address will be added before launch). Contact: [email protected]. These terms are an agreement between you and us for the app. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; if the two conflict about the app licence, Apple's applies on that point. Apple is not responsible for the app or its support.
Who can use it
You must be 16 or older, or older if your country's law requires it to enter this agreement or buy apps. The app is for managing your own device. Only set it up on a device you own or are entitled to manage, and do not use it to restrict another person's device without their consent.
What the app does
The app blocks apps and websites you choose using Apple's Screen Time technology, and unlocks them when conditions you set are met, such as health goals read from Apple Health. It also offers delayed changes (24 hours), emergency unlocks ("unblocks"), streaks, widgets and sync between your own devices.
- It depends on Apple technology and permissions (Screen Time, Health). Apple may change or limit them, so we cannot guarantee that blocking is perfect or that every health reading is accurate, instant or complete, including data from third-party devices.
- The app tells you when your device does not record a goal's data.
Wellness only, not medical
The app is not a medical device and gives no medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Do not set goals that put your health at risk, and talk to a professional before changing your exercise or sleep habits. Never rely on the app to block apps you need for safety. It does not block phone calls or emergency calls.
Price, unblocks and refunds
- One price, everything included. You pay once in the App Store (the price, including VAT where applicable, is shown in the App Store before you buy). There is no subscription and there are no in-app purchases. Updates are included.
- unblocks. Each unlocks a blocked group for 15 minutes, once. Every user gets six. They are part of the app, are never sold, have no cash value and cannot be transferred. You never need one: you can also unlock by meeting your goals, or turn blocking off with the 24-hour delayed disable.
- Payment and refunds. Apple handles payment, receipts and refunds (see support.apple.com/billing).
- Right of withdrawal. The app is digital content delivered immediately. EU/EEA consumers agree when buying that delivery begins right away and that the 14-day right of withdrawal ends once the download has started, as allowed by Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU.
- Nothing here limits your statutory rights, including legal guarantees for digital content.
The 24-hour delay and stopping
To help you stick to your own goals, changes that loosen protection (removing a blocked app, lowering a goal, deleting a workflow, turning blocking off) take effect after 24 hours. You can cancel a pending change at any time, and changes that tighten protection apply immediately. You can always stop using the app by removing its Screen Time access in iOS Settings or by deleting it. We will never make it impossible for you to stop.
Your responsibilities
Do not misuse the app, reverse engineer it beyond what the law allows, or try to defeat the unblock counter. Keep your device secure.
Intellectual property
The app, the De:activate name and its mark belong to us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, under Apple's usage rules. Third-party app names and logos belong to their owners; we are not affiliated with them or with Apple.
Privacy
See our privacy policy. Health data stays on your device.
Changes to the app and these terms
We may update the app and these terms, for example for legal or technical reasons or to improve features. For changes that disadvantage you materially, we will tell you in the app in advance (at least 30 days where legally required) and you may stop using the app. We will not take away features you paid for and move them behind a new payment.
Availability, warranties and liability
The app is provided with the quality required by law. For consumers, mandatory statutory rights (including conformity of digital content under Directive (EU) 2019/770 and Dutch Civil Code Book 7) are unaffected. Subject to those rights, we are not liable for indirect loss such as missed messages or lost time caused by blocked apps, and for other loss only up to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months, except for intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or anything that cannot legally be limited.
Termination
You may stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or end access for serious misuse.
Governing law and disputes
Dutch law applies, but if you are a consumer in another country you keep the mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence. Disputes go to the competent Dutch court, or to the court where you live if you are a consumer. Send complaints to [email protected]; we aim to reply within 14 days. Consumers may use alternative dispute resolution where available.
